About Me
Dana Torakis

(Me in the styles of Modigliani - Botticelli - Mucha)

I don't really know what to say, except, I love art. Both looking at and making it. I feel very lucky that I can make it my career. I love to paint, make beads, sculpt, make stuff with clay, draw, use tools, knit, crochet, sew, felt, do beadwork, and just about anything else I can get my hands on.
I work in a very jam-packed studio in my home in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan. And my basement, and my kitchen, and my garage...
I am a mom to one fantastic boy. I love to look at his drawings. They're so technical, detailed and inventive. He likes to draw machines, robots, vehicles. I am also lucky to have a husband who is always supportive of my endeavors and shenannigans.
Graphic design and web design / programming are another hobby of mine. I was a freelance graphic / web designer before I decided to devote more time to the other arts. I still like to do things, though, especially with PHP. You can see a tarot card thingy I made
here. I thought that would be a good challenge. One of my flash web sites is
here.
We have 4 cats, so cat fur is naturally a part of most, if not all, things I make. Not in beads, because it burns away in the torch - and smells terrible! I like to paint cats, and often paint black and white "tuxie" cats, and they usually resemble my tuxedo cat, Jake. He is always trying to prevent me from getting anything done. He loves to cuddle up on my shoulder, right in my face. When I am using the torch, he sits between my back, and the chair back. As soon as the torch is turned off, he starts meowing until I finally hold him like a baby. I also have a black hamster named Souki. She is the nicest hamster in the world (and my first). My only dog ever recently passed - Daisy. Animals are the best, I will always have several.
Thanks for looking!
